The battle of the platforms

The good news, and bad news, about the Interwebz these days is that there are so many ways to consume content. But the question is

What’s the best platform to live chat with other viewers?

I just watched an episode of TYT’s Old School on Twitch, which I don’t usually do. Even tho Old School’s now live, I watched the recording, but it got me to thinking about this.

It’s only the 5th or 6th time I’ve gone to watch anything on Twitch, live or recorded. I may eventually warm up to Twitch, but at least during the The Damage Report and the TYT main show, the live chat just goes so fast. I can’t keep up! And I consider myself pretty tech savvy overall.

Part of it is — if you’ve ever read my posts on here or my tweets, brevity isn’t my strong suit. I love to interact with other people watching with me (since my wife won’t, lol). But it takes me a minute sometimes to formulate my thoughts. And by the time I know what I want to say and find a way to say it succinctly, everyone on Twitch is already talking about something completely different.

For The Young Turks and TDR, I like watching on YouTube but at the same time chatting with folks on the member site and on Twitter (¡viva la multitasking!).

  • I like to watch on YouTube because it’s easy to pause, rewind, and speed it up to catch up if I join late or have to stop to do something.

  • I prefer Twitter for interacting because it’s open to everyone (except banned folks like Donald Trump) and you can retweet/share the stream/etc. to let people outside of the TYT family know what’s going on.

  • I like the tyt.com members’ chat, there is some overlap between who’s on Twitter and tyt.com, but it’s a different community and is just TYT family, not for a bigger audience who may or may not see it on Twitter.

So I’m curious — what do you guys like in terms of platforms? Here’s a Twitter poll where you can vote, or feel free to leave a comment here!
