This week, I’m going to highlight a local organization (or technically, a regional one) that does great work for 100,000s of people every year: The Mid-South Food Bank.

Some quick facts about this great charity.

  • This year marks their 40th anniversary of helping food insecure individuals

  • They work with over 300 partners to serve over in the MidSouth — western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas.

  • They and their partners serve 4 million meals every month

  • In addition to the meals, they now have other programs they run or work with other organizations on, including

    • Bare Needs Diaper Bank: Free diapers to mothers who can’t afford them

    • Food for Kids Backpacks with six meals for children whose families are food insecure;

    • Mobile Pantries: refrigerated food trucks that go to “food deserts” where access to fresh food is limited or non-existent.

    • Kid Café, with a My Plate (the new food Pyramid) hot meal every day after school;

    • Period supplies for those dealing with Period Poverty (lack of access to feminine hygiene products)

    • Senior Grocery food boxes, including meals seniors can prepare.
