Help somebody: Help Nina!

I’ve never done this before on my blog, but I’m making a direct appeal to support a candidate.

Nina Turner for Congress

Nina Turner is possibly the best chance progressives have to keep our movement going on a national level. To force the Democrats into actually doing something to help people who desperately need it in these times.

And to keep voters in 2022 and 2024 from not showing up or voting Republican. There is a real risk of the GOP taking over the Senate and possibly the House in 2022, because establishment Dems are doing little to nothing to stop it.

If we as progressives want to push our progressive officials (the Squad, Jamaal Bowman, Ro Khanna, and a few others) to stand up to corporate Dems, Nina may be the only one who can get it done.

IMO, Bernie, AOC, and sometimes other elected progressives are too quick to compromise or fall in line. AOC calling Pelosi “mama bear” didn’t help with that impression, which I think is pretty accurate.

If you can, please support Nina’s campaign. The establishment has infused millions of dollars into the race, and Hillary Clinton came back from the woods to support Nina’s main challenger. They’ve turned a run-away race by Nina into a near-tie with only days left. Or at least a near-tie is the narrative in the media (internal and GOP-friendly poll takers, but polls can affect public opinion). We need to fight back now so we can fight back in Washington.

Here’s my post from April, when Nina Turner won the monthly poll for who should receive a $50 donation. Hopefully those who voted in that poll, and others seeing this, will consider volunteering or donating to help Nina across the finish line. https://ninaturner.com

I’m very happy to report that the most votes for March’s $50 donation from eclecticmisc.org went to the one and only Nina Turner! 🎉 I’ve donated $50 to her campaign (receipts, literally, at the end of this post). Thank you to everyone who voted!!

Nina Turner is a woman who needs no introduction (although I know someone — Unprecedented Madness on Twitter — who had the privilege of introducing her at a TYT rally!), but just in case, a quick intro.

Turner has been up and coming in progressive politics for quite a while now: former Cleveland City Councillor, Ohio State Senator, president of Our Revolution, and co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ (or as she calls him, “Bernard Sanders”) 2020 campaign.

She’s currently running for the US House or Representatives in Ohio’s 11th district. She’s arguably the strongest, most inspirational politician currently in progressive politics — more energetic and in-your-face (in a good way) than AOC and Bernie combined, and arguably more to the left than both of them as well. If she wins, this could send huge shockwaves through Washington.

She champions Medicare for All, Green New Deal, Cancel Student Debt…and so many other causes I support. You can find out specifics on her platform here. I’m excited to see how her campaign will turn out!

One last note — the vote was closer this time than the last two months. “Other” won second place, combined. Here are the three “other” ones mentioned by those who voted other. I’m linking to them but haven’t had a chance to “vet” them yet, so feel free to check them out and decide for yourself. They may be featured in a future “getting to know you” blog post here!

Unicorn Riot

CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), and

Hard Lens Media (Chicago).

Doctors Without Borders, Democracy Now, and The Young Turks also received votes.

Since Nina Turner won last month’s poll, her name is taken out of the rotation for April’s poll, which is open now! Thanks again for visiting the site and to those who voted!

Also, please remember to vote in the July poll to help decide which progressive-friendly org will get a $50 donation! Thanks!
