22 resolutions for ‘22, Part 2
I made 11 politics-related resolutions in my last post. So far I don’t think I’ve broken any of them, but not sure if I’ve kept them either (but it’s only been a day since I made them!).
Do you have any of the same resolutions? What do you think of them?
PERSONAL RESOLUTIONS FOR 2022
HEALTH AND HAPPINESS 🏥 😎
30+ mins of exercise a day. I do this most of the time, but it needs to be more regular (with maybe 1 day off a week). I also plan to expand my exercise types beyond just power walking or treadmill.
Practice self-care more often. It sounds like a stupid buzzword, or at least I used to think that. But taking short but regular breaks from work, and spending time daily to clear my mind (I get a big discount on Calm from work and this help).
Drop the “covid 19” (weight). Before the pandemic I was doing pretty well weight-wise. The past two years I’ve gained weight and need to get back into a healthy range. (Frozen yogurt Wednesdays instead of Ice Cream Wednesdays?)
Tell people to put on their damn mask. And wear it correctly. I caught covid and don’t want my wife and daughter to catch it because some asshole can’t be bothered to put on a mask or wear it correctly (fun fact: air and your germs can both go in and out of your nose, too!).
Do more to fight for our daughter’s health. Overall and pediatric cases in Memphis, TN are skyrocketing. Neighboring West Memphis schools are closed today because of the rise in covid cases. Kids should not be in school now.
We’re withdrawing our daughter from afterschool daycare and extracurriculars as of Monday. We need to make sure the school still follows their covid rules during the school day (it took some back-and-forth in the fall) and push for virtual or strengthening protocols further.
Keep up on the covid situation locally and around the world. I did at the start of the pandemic, and pretty regularly until December. After I caught covid and looked inward for a while, I haven’t kept up as much. I can’t fall into the false complacency being pushed in the media about it not being that big a deal. It’s milder, but also insanely contagious and could further mutate.
HOME AND HOBBIES 🏡🖖
Do projects around the house. Why put off indefinitely what you can do sometime before the end of time? Maybe it’s time to do something about things like our cracked plaster in the living room, our increasingly chaotic storage in the unfinished part of the attic, etc.
Reconsider who does what housework/chores. My wife and my jobs have changes a lot since the pandemic, and now our daughter’s going to be home right after school. We need to make sure none of the three of us are doing more than our fair share.
Watch Star Trek and other shows just for me. I almost always watch what my wife and/or daughter want to. I can watch things on my own too some nights or on weekends!
Read for fun. There’s more to life than politics. I want to read more in general, but this also has to include fun stuff — I’ve started reading the Wings of Fire graphic novels, which my daughter loves, so it’s another fun to do that we can share.
Take time to enjoy music. I love music and come from a musical family. I’ve even written music before. But the past few years it’s mostly been something I put on in the background while I work or exercise. I think it’s time to face the music! It will also mean I have less time for bad dad jokes, so there’s another benefit.
