Taking a jab at promoting vaccination
The Memphis area has royally f’d up the covid vaccine roll-out. I was one of the lucky ones because it meant I got my vaccine sooner than I should have.
Stolen doses, stockpiling doses, wasted doses, cover-ups about these things… Another reason having a national health care system — with coordination and oversight of distribution of vaccines — would be extremely helpful during a pandemic.
On Friday afternoon two weekends ago, there were extra doses that were going to be thrown out because they’d be expired by Monday, so word started to get around that they were opening up vaccines to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis at a certain site.
We ran over there and after waiting in line for four hours, I got my vaccine. Exceptional job by the people on the ground dealing with the snafu by the county and city. I feel bad that I got it before other people higher up on the list, but also didn’t want the vaccine to go to waste.
If you can get the vaccine — you’re in a group that’s eligible to get the vaccine, or lucky enough like me to have an opportunity to get it as a walk-in — do it. The small risk involved with getting the vaccine is far outweighed by the good you’ll be doing not only for yourself, but for your friends, loved ones, and community.
The more people are vaccinated, the better chance that we can stop the spread and get back to something resembling normal soon. #Vaccinated ❤️ 💪
