Follow Friday and Feckless Foes (pre-)announcement!
#FollowFriday
It’s Friday, and I actually did Follow Friday on time this week, woo-hoo! The tweets are at the end of this post so you can check them out and follow whoever you’re not following, too!
We need to follow and boost our allies and comrades now more than ever. It feels like the country is just spiraling further and out of control. The Democrats are either sitting on their fat-cat corrupt asses and doing nothing substantive, or actually going backwards, on issue after issue in spite of MAJOR events that should spur them to action.
So I’ve decided to start compiling a “Feckless Foes” list (the name of which is inspired in part by Ana Kasparian’s frequent use of the word to describe Democrats and others who just surrender instead of actually standing up to fascists and corporate donors).
I’ll be asking for your help in deciding who should go on the list.
Basically, I’ll have Follow Fridays to give a shout out to good folks to follow and boost, and Feckless Foes to call out Democrats, the media, and others who are allowing or helping the Right to unravel what’s left of democracy.
I’m still working out the details of what Feckless Foes will look like. For now, I’m thinking it will be a weekly or monthly “award” based on who readers of the blog or my tweets nominate, and then I’ll take and/or suggest some sort of action calling them out — tweeting @ them “congratulating” them for their award, donating to their primary opponent, etc.
Some of the fecklessness perpetuated recently by certain members of the American “Left” that someone should be called out for:
Roe v Wade decision leaked showing SCOTUS is set to overturn it. They overturn it. Democrats’ response — befuddlement and an executive “order” to punt the ball by creating a commission to possibly later take action.
Build Back Better split into two, so the corporate goodies get passed but key measures for the actual people of our country still haven’t, and we have news today that no new climate initiatives will pass this term.
Two back-to-back school shootings, and SCOTUS striking down gun restrictions in several states, so Democrats pass a weak “bipartisan” bill that increased some background checks for only some people and only under 21 (instead of everyone) and only keeps convicted domestic abusers from possessing firearms for five years (because most abusers are magically cured after 5 years?). There’s some token funding for mental health resources, but that seems more like an insult — pretending the main problem behind mass shootings is mental health, not access to guns.
So stay tuned to my blog and Twitter account for more info on “Feckless Foes” next week. And assuming Democrats don’t somehow grow a spine in the next week, we should hopefully have our first feckless foe(s) next week.
Have a good weekend!
