Monday is over, and the fight continues
This week’s #MondayMotivation
I’m still reeling from SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and an abortion ban is looming in Tennessee either as soon as today or tomorrow (if the court goes along with what the Tennessee Attorney General wants) or at the most 30 days after the Roe v. Wade decision (trigger law already passed).
The Supreme Court also ruled in favor of teachers and coaches at public schools leading public prayers, eviscerating the separation of church and state in state-funded schools. So next fall, my daughter may be expected to pray in school to whatever her teacher wants to pray to, presumably some mutation of the Christian god as they interpret it.
So in other words, I am not very motivated right now. Horrible news like this absolutely crushes me. In the past I might have literally stayed in bed for a day or two.
Now in part because of having my 8-year-old daughter, as well as my wife who is supportive but who doesn’t get as affected by the news as I do, I force myself to do the basic things I need to do and try not to think about it obsessively. As someone who has bipolar, I can’t let myself fall into depression.
Being active in TYT Army and the larger TYT Family is also helping a lot — spending time collaborating on posts for TYT Army to get out the word about last week’s abortion rights protests, participating and helping out in the chat for longer than I normally do. Other people are outraged, depressed, hopeless, motivated to fight back, or a mix of these. We’re there for each other.
It’s been quite a Monday, but I did the best I could, and that’s all I can do. And together, we still march on and will do the best we can to fight for a better world.
