Support Planned Parenthood

The votes are in for the Sept. poll for which organization will get a $50 donation from eclecticmisc.org!

Every month, site visitors participate in a poll to help me pick which progressive-friendly organization will get a $50 donation.

Here are some of the past winners that you’ve chosen, ranging from Jeff Waldorf’s Around the Nation (part of TYT Nation) to Doctors Without Borders, and many in-between.

This past month, partly because of my unexpected hospital stay, I decided to include four options related to healthcare for people to choose from. And without further ado: September’s winner is…

Planned Parenthood!

With the GOP’s growing assault on the constitutionally-guaranteed right to an abortion, and the Supreme Court’s complicity in allowing Texas to go ahead with what’s about as close to a full ban on abortion as you can get, defending reproductive rights is more important than ever.

As many of you probably know, abortions are actually a very small, but important, part of what Planned Parenthood does. Here are just some of a large number of other important services you may not know about (per their site):

I don’t think I’ve admitted this online before, but the importance of abortion rights was one of the last things I finally came around to after growing up in a fairly conservative religious denomination. For a number of years, I was progressive on essentially everything except abortion, before becoming what I considered neutral (if that’s possible), to now fully supporting a woman’s right to choice.

About the only good thing that has come out of the GOP’s incessant attacks on women’s reproductive rights has been making it so blatantly obvious that anti-abortion religious zealots and politicians who claim to be pro-life aren’t pro-life.

They’re pro-controlling women’s bodies, using religion and politics as an excuse to try to stop them from making decisions controlling their own body, and then more often than not staunchly opposing programs that would help actual children and parents who need it.

I’m very happy to be able to contribute to helping them keep their doors open in spite of the incessant attacks on all the good work they are doing to educate and serve people who often have nowhere else to turn for basic, life-saving and life-changing healthcare.

If you don’t yet, please consider getting involved by volunteering or donating to them. The results of the poll and receipt for the donation are below. Thanks again to all who voted!

Please come back for more or follow me on Twitter for political and “random” content, and also the October donation poll, which will be opening up later this week.
