Spreading the love
I have to say, I was skeptical when I started participating in #FollowFriday. It seemed like a gimmick, and when I would see people posting for it, or other tweets sharing people to follow, a lot of times I’d ignore it.
But now that I’ve been on Twitter longer and am getting to know more people on here, I get it. It’s a great way to network and find new people who share a variety of interests, from politics, to movies, to dad jokes…
Since I’ve been doing it, I’ve also been getting more followers, some of them I now see more often in my timeline, others I seek out to see what they’re up to, and some who like or retweet what I’m posting. And I get exposed to a wider variety of viewpoints, which really helps me think about what’s going on in the news and the world.
There’s a new trend with “Interaction Circles”, the most popular seems to be Chirpty, that show which accounts you’ve interacted with over the past week. I’ve been in a few of them recently, which is great because they’re giving people a shout-out and it’s another way to discover people with similar interests.
I already do the #FollowFriday, and that’s been working really well, but I might try out doing an Interaction Circle sometime — first for myself to see what the results are with people and my account, and then also to spread the love.
Twitter does have a dark side, a very dark side, but there are also great people on here. I’m benefitting as a person from meeting and interacting with a wider circle (so that’s why it’s called that, lol!) of people — including you reading this! — than as a fairly introverted person irl I ever would face-to-face.
