We’re doomed
It’s looking more and more like the reconciliation bill is not going to have much worthwhile left in it. From Bernie’s initial $6 trillion — with important, significant measures to address climate change, improve Medicare, continue child tax credits, and much more — to Biden, Pelosi, and others now saying that not even $1.5 trillion will be possible, with progressive policies being entirely eliminated or eviscerated.
It’s important not to give up hope and to push for as much as we can get, but it’s gotten to the point where it’s almost not salvageable IMO. Blame it on Manchin and Sinema, but this problem is much bigger than that.
Progressives supporting this slashed bill would be complicit in corporations running the agenda, and very likely leading to the GOP gaining control of one or both houses. That long-term damage would offset the little good that’s left in the bill, in my opinion. It’s time for progressives to take a stand.
Here are a few tweets I had about it that sum up how I’m feeling. If you haven’t yet, please vote in the poll to help me decide which org will get a $50 donation for October; the poll’s open until Oct. 31 at 11:59pm Eastern.
