*Double* Follow Friday!

Today is #FollowFriday!

Plus it’s the last weekday I’m out of town, so here’s another “Best of” post — the top blog post from May was coincidentally…for Follow Friday!

That week had two big-name followers, Tara Reade and Sadat Alvi, and a well-known name in TYT circles: iamsock.

It’s Friday, which means it’s time again to give a shout-out and say thank you to the people who followed me on Twitter this week.

And this week, I feel very honored to have two well-known people who have just followed me: Tara Reade — yes, *the* Tara Reade! — former Senate aide, author, and sexual assault survivor, and Sadaf Alvi: the Pakistani doctor, women rights activist, and blogger.

I got a lot of positive feedback last week about how I did #FollowFriday tweets on Twitter — a screenshot of each Twitter profile, in addition to a link to their handle, so it’s not just a list of handles — so I’ll do that again this week.

But this week, I also have to talk about Tara Reade and Sadaf Alvi, both of whom are well-known and speak to important issues that often don’t get enough coverage.

 
 

  • If you’re reading this, it is very likely you know who Tara Reade (on Twitter: @ReadeAlexandra) is, so I won’t give a detailed bio but just a few thoughts.

    • I think she was very courageous to come forward, knowing how the media might treat her for bringing credible sexual assault allegations against the man that the establishment was rooting for to become President.

    • From what she says, there are other women who were too afraid to come forward after seeing what happened to her. The media’s clear bias against her, and attacks about completely unrelated things in her personal life, was absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating.

    • It’s shocking, but not surprising, how quickly many public figures who vocally supported the #IBelieveHer movement abandoned it. Many people, including those who criticized Biden and called for an investigation, seem to have forgotten about the accusations against Biden.

    • I listened to Ryan Knight’s interview of her when it came out back in March; it was an enlightening and interesting interview, and I got to find out about her progressive political views. Here’s a clip below (Amped Up with Ryan Knight). I haven’t read Tara Reade’s book yet, Left Out: When the Truth Doesn’t Fit, but now that it’s summer and I have more time, I will be reading it (and likely post a reaction/review on here). It’s great that she saw my profile and either liked it or didn’t dislike it enough not to follow it. :)

Sadaf Alvi (with the great handle @TheGrumpyDoctor) followed me this week, and I quickly returned the favor! She’s a doctor in Lahore, Pakistan, and online she’s the blogger behind Audicity to Write. In her own words from her Facebook profile:

“Audacity To Write is my personal blog. I am using this platform to raise my voice against terrorism, religious bigotry, patriarchy and social injustice.”

I’ve explored a little more this week, and she writes and tweets passionately about these issues: often in a serious way, and sometimes with humor. She also tweets on a wide variety of other topics as well, both about Pakistan and internationally, including a number of messages or retweets related to the Palestinians and biased pro-Israeli coverage of what’s happening there. I’m looking forward to exploring her blog and her timeline mow.
