Masks & Vaccines—the smart choice (literally)

People who get covid, even with mild symptoms, experience cognitive decline, including lower IQs overall. Very scary and another reason to get vaccinated and wear a mask — even if you’re vaccinated — as delta and other new variants spread.

We’re still in a pandemic. And it’s getting worse — 2/3 of counties in the US now have high transmission of the delta variant. And now the CDC has done what it should have done a long time ago — guidance saying that people, including those who are vaccinated, should be wearing masks indoors where delta is spreading — which is the large majority of places in the US.

In addition to death and risks of long-covid health problems, research has now confirmed that **even people with mild covid cases** have ongoing cognitive impairment.

The IQs of people who caught covid dropped. Yes, you read that right. Covid makes you dumber, literally, and possibly permanently.

Will that finally get people to take this seriously? None of our kids under 12 are vaccinated yet and can’t be.

  • Do you want friends, family, coworkers, to have life-long cognitive issues because you wouldn’t get a free covid vaccine?

  • Do you want kids not to reach their potential just because you as an adult wouldn’t wear a mask to protect them?

  • There are a number of breakthrough cases (people who had covid or were vaccinated, but who still caught covid) — research is showing current vaccines are less effective against delta — not to mention that there are people who medically can’t get a vaccine.

It’s not just the antivaxxers who are suffering and will continue to suffer unless we stop covid.

Don’t trust me, a random guy on the Internet. Here are several articles and Twitter posts citing data and advice from actual experts.

Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding, Senior Fellow of the Federation of American Scientists, former faculty and researcher at Harvard Medical School

This is one set of data, which needs further confirmation from other research; this Forbes article discusses it and reasons why the results are so different than expected from previous studies.

Please, please —

  • Get vaccinated unless you medically can’t

  • Wear a mask, ***whether or not you’re vaccinated*** to protect kids and others who can’t get vaccinated — and as variants continue to change rapidly, to protect yourself.
