A pacifist joins the (TYT) Army

If you had asked me a year ago if I’d want to join an army, I would have said no.

But TYT Army has all the benefits of an army without any of the negatives (no boot camp, we don’t invade other countries, you don’t have to get a crew cut [unless you want to]…).

It’s volunteers working together to find and fight against media bias and establishment propaganda. You can volunteer as little or as much time as you can. Every little bit helps and we all have each other’s backs (and have a good time, too!).

There are five different task forces you can choose from, depending on what you’re interested in. Even within each task force, you can focus on one or more things that you’re good at or that you want to learn how to do — no experience required.

  1. Task Force 1 — Intelligence. Identifying bias in the media, tracking the news, looking at articles, memes, videos, etc. submitted by people, and helping determine what TYT Army will post or write about.

  2. Task Force 2 — Researching and Reporting. Fact-checking claims in articles, infographics going around on the web, researching info to fight about the bias identified by Task Force 1.

  3. Task Force 3 — Visual Communications. Designing graphics, creating memes, editing videos, and other visual elements to grab people’s attention on social media or the tyt.com/army website.

  4. Task Force 4 — Social Relations. Amplifying the progressives message by partnering with influencers — Sunrise Movement, Ken Klippenstein, Ben Cohen from Ben and Jerry’s, Justice Democrat Brent Welder, and more — & crunching the data to see how we can improve our impact.

  5. Task Force 5 — Infantry. Local teams throughout the country helping spread the message of progressive candidates, legislators, and organizations. For example, the TYT Army Georgia team helped get info out during the US Senate elections in January that helped decide who would control the Senate.

The TYT Army is led by Alison Hartson, the teacher-turned-Justice Democrat Senate candidate-turned Community Director for The Young Turks. If you’ve watched The Young Turks any time during the past few years, you’ve probably seen her either on air or in promos for TYT Army.

If you want to find out more, here’s a description of TYT Army and the different tasks forces you can sign up to join. You can also ask me; I’m a Captain for Task Force 4. TYT Army is a big part of the reason that TYT is Too Strong. 💪
