Hot takes on hot memes

I always am puzzled by what catches on in social media and what doesn’t. Memes are a perfect example. So I’m going to look at some of this year’s best memes, according to Thrillest, and give my quick take on five of them to see just how in tune I am with the zany world of social media.

I haven’t really seen this a ton, but it makes sense and definitely something I could see myself tweeting about. I didn’t know/remember who Laertes was, so this take on the meme is also educational!

What in the actual fuck? I don’t even know where to begin to understand this. I’m either too clueless or too old (even though I’m not *that* old!). And to be honest, I don’t really want to know. Feel free to tell me if you want to. If not I’ll just sit this one out.

Again, I don’t remember seeing this meme going around, but this is also something I could get behind. I actually just did a tweet earlier today about the hilariously low-budget Eagle Man commercials that were popular in Chicago in the 1990s. If I had known, maybe I could have added “You had to be there” and shown how meme-savvy I was. About a month late apparently.

Now *this* one I know about and actually participated in. Finally, I don’t feel like entirely clueless about what passes for memes among the cool kids online these days. Bernie FTW!

One last one for the road, and it’s their #1 pick.

I’ve seen this from a few people, and now I know it’s a bigger trend apparently. And I think this specific incarnation of the meme actually fits me pretty well, too.

It’s definitely one I can get behind. So maybe I’ll see in the next few days (March is almost over!) if I can think of something funny (or clever) to do for this on Twitter!
