TYT FTW!
Thank you to everyone who voted in the May poll for a $50 donation from eclecticmisc.org to a progressive-friendly cause or organization.
Would a hero vote for The Young Turks, aka "the “Home of Progressives”? I guess! Was TYT the top vote-getter? Of course!!!
If you’re familiar with my handle from my live tweets being read on TYT, you may think, “Of course TYT won!”
But this is actually the 5th month of voting — I’m very happy both that TYT won and that people have chosen other great organizations in previous polls to get the $50 monthly donation.
In case you don’t know the show, or haven’t watched in the past few months, The Young Turks is a two-hour news and political talk show from a progressive perspective.
The main show airs free every weekday from 6pm-8pm Eastern. Unlike the MSNBCs of the world, they are viewer-supported. Those who become members on tyt.com, YouTube, or Twitch get extra content, such as the Bonus Episode (which used to be called the Post Game) and extended coverage of special events, such as election coverage, etc.
Watching their new intro will give you a good idea. TYT is NOT just one show, however — I’ll explain briefly below the video.
The Young Turks is the longest-running Internet news show on the planet, with over 16 billion views (with a b) since launching in 2005.
Cenk Uygur is the “original Young Turk”—the founder, host and CEO.
Ana Kasparian is Executive Producer and host of the main show.
John Iadarola frequently hosts the main show, as well as being host of the immensely popular show The Damage Report, which now has over 500 million views on YouTube and over 600k subscribers.
This is in addition to many other great shows and hosts (TYT’s Jayar Jackson, the Bitchuation Room’s Francesca Fiorentini, and so many others) airing on a plethora of different platforms: tyt.com, Twitch, YouTube, YouTube TV, Roku…
Happy Half Hour with Brett Erlich
Deep Dive with Jordan Uhl
TYT Old School with Ben Mankiewicz and Cenk
The brand-new Indisputable with Dr. Rashad Richey
And more.
I could (and sometimes do!) talk for hours about The Young Turks, the hosts, and TYT Network — as well as their volunteer organization TYT Army — but you can check out more here and please consider subscribing or donating too to support independent journalism!!
Here are the details for the vote and the receipts (literally) for my donation. As you can see, Democracy Now came in second, the ACLU was third, and Kyle Kulinski and Freedom from Religion Foundation tied for fourth. They and Justice Democrats will move on to next month’s poll (in addition to the “Other” choice), and I’ll plan on keeping the field at 5 in future months.
TYT joins Jeff Waldorf’s Around the Nation (January), Jacobin Magazine (February), and Nina Turner (March) in receiving a $50 donation, and Doctors without Borders and Richard Wolff/Democracy at Work splitting April’s $50 since the vote was tied.

Which cause, organization, or show will you pick next month? I’ll be posting the poll tomorrow, so in the meantime please leave a comment, follow me on Twitter, explore the rest of my site and come back starting tomorrow to vote in the $50 donation poll for June!
